Abstract

Drunk driving remains one of the major causes of road accidents globally, posing a significant threat to public safety. This project aims to develop an alcohol-sensitive engine locking mechanism that prevents intoxicated individuals from operating a vehicle. The system utilizes a Raspberry Pi in conjunction with an MQ3 alcohol sensor, which continuously monitors the driver’s breath for alcohol content. If alcohol is detected beyond a predefined threshold, the system immediately locks the vehicle’s engine, preventing further operation. Additionally, a GPS module provides real-time location updates, notifying a pre-registered contact through SMS. This report details the development, implementation, and testing of the alcohol-sensitive engine locking system, highlighting its role in enhancing road safety and reducing drunk driving incidents.
