Abstract

This research aims to investigate the attitudes and experiences of patients regarding the integration of pharmacy services within primary care settings. With the evolving landscape of healthcare, the role of pharmacists has expanded beyond traditional dispensing functions to encompass a broader scope of patient care services. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and in-depth interviews, to gather comprehensive insights into patients’ perceptions. The survey phase involves a diverse sample of primary care patients, exploring their awareness of integrated pharmacy services, satisfaction levels, and perceived benefits and challenges. Initial findings indicate a generally positive reception, with patients acknowledging the convenience of accessing pharmacy services alongside primary care consultations. Furthermore, respondents express interest in expanded pharmacist roles, such as medication counselling and chronic disease management. The qualitative phase involves in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to delve deeper into their experiences. Through thematic analysis, emerging themes include enhanced communication between healthcare providers, improved medication adherence, and a sense of empowerment in managing personal health. Patients appreciate the collaborative nature of integrated services, highlighting instances where pharmacist interventions positively influenced their treatment outcomes. Challenges identified through this research include limited awareness among certain demographics and concerns about privacy. The study underscores the importance of targeted education and communication strategies to address these issues and ensure widespread acceptance.
