Abstract

Background: The effectiveness of fertility treatments is influenced by the health care professionals' knowledge regarding infertility and their attitude; professionals must understand the phenomenon adequately and perceive their patients free of distortions and stereotypes. Objective: Assessment of Medical Group Faculties Students' Knowledge and Attitude About Infertility in Al Najaf Al Ashraf Province. Methodology: Descriptive Cross sectional study of 1366 non probable (purposeful) Samples conducted in al Najaf al Ashraf universities from November 8th, 2022, until April 15th, 2023, using 5 5 point Likert questionnaire to assess student's knowledge and attitude about fertility and infertility. Results: The majority of the study sample were studying in nursing college (22.04%), in the fourth stage (29.65%), females (69.62%), and only (7.32%) of them have a family history of infertility. The study shows that students' awareness about fertility was fair (65.3%) but had a positive attitude (93.12%) regarding fertility. However, this result is similar to students' knowledge about infertility, and it was fair (83.82%), while they got a positive attitude (90.63%) regarding infertility. Finally, it has been found that there is a highly significant relationship between all the study variables (P < 0.0001). Conclusion: Most medical group students have a fair knowledge regarding fertility and infertility and a positive attitude toward fertility and infertility. Recommendation: A study should increase students' awareness and knowledge about fertility and fertility problems. Also, The Ministry of Health should employ mass media to improve students' knowledge about infertility.
