A Study to Assess Effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching Program on the Level of Knowledge Regarding the Harmful Effects of Mobile Phone Addiction Among School Age Children in a Selected School at Nedumangadu, Thiruvananthapuram

People who are addicted to cell phones, sometimes referred to as problematic cell phone users, suffer from severe impairments or distress in their lives due to the addiction, similar to those who are addicted to gambling, shopping, or video games. For this effective knowledge regarding the harmful effects of mobile phone addiction is needed. This study was taken up to assess the effectiveness of a video assisted teaching program on the level of knowledge regarding the harmful effects of mobile phone addiction among school age children in a selected school at Nedumangadu, Trivandrum district. In this study, a quantitative research approach and pre experimental one group pre and post test were designed for research. The data was collected from 50 samples from Darsana Higher Secondary School, Nedumangadu. The study findings showed that the knowledge level of school children has increased after the administration of video assisted teaching. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This study reveals that in the pre test; 30% of children have a poor level of knowledge, 66% of children have an average level of knowledge, 4% of children have a good level of knowledge, and no one has an excellent level of knowledge. After the administration of video assisted teaching, post results show that; no one has a poor level of knowledge, 4% have an average level of knowledge, 14% have a good level of knowledge and 82% have gained an excellent level of knowledge. "In the inferential statistics, there are association found between the knowledge level of school children regarding the awareness of harmful effects of mobile phone addiction such as gender (X2=8.75) residential area (X2=8.86) occupation of the father (X2=17.06) occupation of the mother (X2=18.84) family income (X2=17.06) and type of family (X2=20.55) previous knowledge (X2=18.63)and there is no association between knowledge level of school children regarding the awareness of harmful effects of mobile phone addiction with the demographic variables such as age(X2=3.85) educational status of the father (X2=12.78) educational status of mother (X2=7.89). This study has accepted the hypothesis and rejected the null hypothesis. There is an increase in excellent levels of knowledge after the administration of video assisted teaching.
