Abstract

Background: Job stress is a common feature in the teaching profession, and it has been increasing daily among nurse educators due to stressors. Objectives: The study's main aim was to examine the relationship between stressors and job stress among nurse educators in Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive correlation study was conducted among nurse educators at Dhaka Nursing College, College of Nursing Mohakhali, and College of Nursing Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, from January to December 2023. A convenience sampling technique was used to select the participants. A sample size of 102 was determined using power analysis. The instruments used for this study were the Teacher Stress Inventory (TSI) developed by Fimian (1984), comprising 49 items with ten subscales. Data were collected through a self-administered structured questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: This study results showed that nurse educators experienced high stress in the subscale of stressors, including work-related stressors (M=3.03, SD=.71), professional distress (M=4.26, SD=.64), discipline and motivation (M=3.48, SD=1.07) and professional investment (M=4.03, SD=.90). On the other hand, nurse educators mentioned not noticing stress symptoms in all subscales of job stress including emotional manifestation (M=2.16, SD=1.09), fatigue manifestation (M=2.27, SD=.84), cardiovascular manifestation (M=2.01, SD=1.21), gastronomical manifestation (M=1.54, SD=.59), and behavioral manifestation (M=1.53, SD=.65). However, there was a significant relationship between stressors and job stress (r=.200, p=.045) among the nurse educators. Conclusion: Nurse Educators experienced high stress at the workplace due to stressors, but job stress was not manifested. This result will help the higher authorities of nursing colleges & nurse educators recognize different workplace stressors to develop stress reduction strategies for preventing adverse health effects.
