Robust Access Control Mechanisms in IoT Security using VHDL Programming

Malicious attackers are increasingly targeting IoT devices. Data leaks, denial-of-service attacks, and even bodily harm might result from a compromised device. Although necessary, software-based security methods can be exploited and frequently add a large burden that affects battery life and performance. By utilising the inherent security benefits of specialised hardware implementations, hardware-based security presents a strong alternative. Vulnerabilities that can be exploited by software can be greatly reduced by integrating security features straight into the hardware. With the help of the robust Hardware Description Language VHDL, designers can produce unique hardware implementations tailored to particular security requirements. As IoT devices proliferate, strict security measures are required to protect private information and prevent unwanted access. The viability and efficacy of using VHDL to construct hardware-based access control methods in Internet of Things systems are investigated in this study. We show how to implement fine-grained access control policies with little performance overhead by putting forward a novel design for a resource-efficient and flexible VHDL-based ACL module. When compared to conventional software-based solutions, simulation findings demonstrate a notable decrease in susceptibility to frequent software attacks. Additionally, we examine the suggested VHDL implementation's size and power consumption, emphasising its appropriateness for IoT contexts with limited resources. This paper makes a strong case for using hardware-based access control as an essential line of defence for protecting the Internet of Things.
