Abstract

The Potholes are deteriorating the road conditions and pose serious challenges to urban transportation, increasing vehicle damage, accidents, and maintenance costs. The traditional inspection methods are labour-intensive, costly, and slow. This paper introduces PotView, a mobile application for real-time road health monitoring focused on pothole detection and reporting. By using smartphone sensors, GPS, and crowdsourced data, PotView identifies road anomalies and creates an interactive map for maintenance alerts to authorities. The testing showed a 95% pothole detection success rate across varied conditions, and real-time data transmission reduced maintenance response times by 30%. Leveraging the widespread availability of smartphones, PotView offers a scalable, cost-effective solution, enabling proactive infrastructure management and safer urban mobility.
