Abstract

Network monitoring is one of the most crucial elements of guaranteeing communication reliability in the case of malfunctions or evil activities. In-band Network Telemetry (INT) has changed due to programmable data-plane technology and software-defined networks. In-band network telemetry technology uses business packets to visualize network services from beginning to end to collect hop-by-hop network status data. However, there are some issues with the INT protocol's implementation and architecture: (1) INT cannot detect packet loss in the network due to the end-to-end telemetry system. (2) The INT telemetry data will eventually be lost since packets can be dropped for various reasons. (3) Incomplete telemetry data will severely impede the operation of upper-layer network telemetry applications. We use the alternate-marking method to develop a system for tracking packet loss in the network. Results from experiments demonstrate that the technique in use produces accurate outcomes.
