Approximately 1% of children worldwide suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with regional differences being substantial. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the prevalence of ASD in 8-year-olds in the US is 1 in 54, with boys four times more likely than females to receive a diagnosis. The pathogenesis of ASD is yet unknown, however other subtypes have been identified, such as Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD), which is characterised by fast developmental regression and may be related to brain amyloid buildup. The symptoms of ASD are divided into two categories: repetitive, restricted behaviours and social communication issues. In order to address ASD and CDD and achieve better results through early diagnosis, specialised therapies, and ongoing research, a thorough, interdisciplinary strategy is necessary. Realising the complexity of these conditions helps people reach their greatest potential.
