Effectiveness of Bone Health Package on Knowledge, Body Mass Index, and Arthritis Index among Women with Osteoarthritis in Selected Setting

Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition. It causes pain, swelling, and stiffness, affecting a person’s ability to move freely.

Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of the bone health package on knowledge, BMI, and arthritis index among women with osteoarthritis.

Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test only design was used. Twenty participants were selected from the experimental & control groups using a purposive sampling technique.

Results: The findings of the study reveal that, in pre-test experimental & control group knowledge mean score was 11.20 with SD 2.39 & 10.40 with SD 2.12 respectively, “t” value was 0.79 whereas in post-test 18.10 with SD 3.14 & 10.50 with SD 1.96, the “t” value was 6.49 which shows very highly significant at p<0.001 level. The pre-test experimental & control group BMI mean scores were 26.27 with SD 2.43 & 28.92 with SD 3.84, respectively. The calculated independent “t” value was 0.79, whereas in the post-test, it was 25.14 with SD 1.90 & 28.98 with SD 3.85. The calculated independent “t” value was 2.82, which is highly significant at the p < 0.01 level.  The overall arthritis index right leg pre-test experimental & control group mean score was 32.90 with SD 11.74 & 38.00 with SD 10.77 respectively, calculated independent “t” value was 1.01, whereas in post-test it was 13.70 with SD 13.70 & 38.30 with SD 10.47, calculated independent “t” value was 4.60 which shows very highly significant at p<0.001 level and overall arthritis index left leg pre-test experimental & control group mean score was 14.10 with SD 16.62 & 18.30 with SD 10.77 respectively, calculated independent “t” value is 1.01, whereas in post-test 13.70 with SD 8.08 & 18.60 with SD 13.80, calculated independent “t” value was 2.94 which shows highly significant at p<0.001 level. 

Conclusion: Therefore, the bone health package is beneficial for the reduction of osteoarthritis symptoms, and no procedural difficulties were reported. The Bone Health Package and study procedures were feasible and acceptable.
