Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a clinical disorder expressed by glucose intolerance caused by a deficiency in insulin production and action, resulting in hyperglycemia and abnormal carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism. Objective 1: Assess the knowledge regarding diabetes mellitus. 2: Find the association between levels of knowledge of patients with selected demographic variables 3: Prepare a video-assisted teaching regarding diabetes mellitus. Quantitative research approach was used in this study. The type of study used for the study was descriptive. This study was conducted among samples attending NCD clinics in PHC, Elavally. A convenient sampling technique was adopted for this study. The majority of the samples selected for the study were of age group 61 and above [60%] followed by the age group of 46-60[30%]. Hence the majority of samples have previous knowledge regarding diabetes mellitus [57.5%]. There is a significant association between knowledge and age, sex, education, type of work, nutritional pattern, family history and duration of illness.
