Abstract

An outbreak of an unknown lung sickness took place in May 1993 in "The Four Corners," a region bordering Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah in the South Western United States. Worldwide, a wide variety of rodent species carry Hantavirus. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) and human haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) are two distinct illness forms that can be caused by Hantavirus. Every year, between 500,000 and 200,000 cases of HFRS are admitted to hospitals across the globe. A young, physically fit Navajo guy was taken to a hospital in New Mexico because of dyspnoea, and he passed away quickly. There was no effective medication or treatment, no cure, and the disease's exact cause was unclear.
