Title: An experimental study to assess the effectiveness of the demonstration method regarding CPR technique among semester nursing students
Background and objectives: Knowledge regarding (CPR) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation techniques is essential among nursing students to save people's lives. Several factors affected the knowledge, such as lack of initiation to CPR, inadequate knowledge about CPR, and failure to recognize the criticality. The demonstration method accurately helps develop the individual's skills in CPR. A total of 31 students participated in the study, and a statistically significant improvement was found.
Objectives of the study:
• To Assess Pretest Practice Level of Second Semester B.Sc. Nursing Students Regarding CPR Technique.
• To Administer CPR Demonstration Technique Among Second Semester BSc Nursing Students.
• To Assess the Post-Term Test Practice Level Regarding CPR Technique Among Second Semester B. Sc. Nursing Students.
• To Compare the Test and Test Practice Levels among Second Semester B. Sc. Nursing
• To assess the association between pretest scores with selected demographic variables.
Method: The study was pre-experimental and carried out for one month in Smt Padma G Madegowda College of Nursing at Bharathinagara. A non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select 31 samples of students who were studying in the second semester of BSc nursing at SPGMCON. Along with socio-demographic Proforma, the factor’s assessing checklist was used to collect the data from a sample. The paired ‘t’ test was used to find the difference between the pretest and posttest knowledge of the CPR technique. The chi-square test was used to find the association between the factor and the subject pretest practice score with selected demographic variables at a 5% significance level.
Result: From the present study's findings, it was concluded that the mean pretest score is 3.5, which signifies that the knowledge regarding CPR among 2nd semester BSc nursing students of Smt. Padma G Madegowda College of Nursing is reduced. The mean of the pretest conducted among 31 samples regarding the effectiveness of CPR is 3.5, and the mean of the identical 31 samples posttest is 20.06. Among 31 samples taken (p=0.12), belongs to the age category. The Majority of samples are gender and are at the rate of (p=0.7), the maximum number of samples belongs to the religion of (p=0.8), and the Majority of samples (p=0.51), parents have the education level. Around (p=0.27), several samples have a monthly Income. Most of the samples (p=0.3) live in the Area of residence. Among the 31 samples (p=0.34), of them had witnessed CPR, and none of them (p=0.0000) haven't performed CPR before.
Conclusion: The study's findings have implications for nursing education, nursing practice, nursing administration, and nursing research regarding knowledge of CPR among nursing students for lifesaving. The present study emphasizes that the students acquire knowledge regarding CPR while caring for patients with cardiac arrest and sudden unconsciousness. The curriculum should be prepared to involve the concept of CPR and its related aspects. Nursing educational institutions should conduct educational programs like training programs to uplift the students' knowledge and skills in implementing CPR when a cardiac emergency occurs. This study can be used in nursing practice while providing evidence-based care using the CPR technique, as this may increase positive care outcomes. CPR is key in recovering individuals suffering from unexpected cardiac emergencies and saves lives. Nursing administrators should take an interest in conducting continuing education among nursing students and motivate them to undergo such education. This study can be utilized to provide education among students to ensure that they understand the importance of CPR. Providing evidence-based care regarding
