Psychological Well-being of Intensive Care Nurses Working at Tertiary Level Hospitals in Bangladesh

Abstract

Objectives: The study aims to explore the psychological well-being of intensive care unit nurses in Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used for a total of 112 Nurses who were selected by using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected by structured psychological well-being questionnaire from Dhaka Medical College Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Data were collected through one-to-one interviews. Data was collected through one-to-one interviews by using the structured Psychological well-being questionnaire to assess psychological well-being among nurses. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study was conducted from July 2022 to June 2023. Results: The study result revealed that Intensive care unit nurses perceive a high level of psychological well-being. Participants' age (r=-.273, p= .006); marital status (t=4.965, p=.000); nurses experience (F=3.689, p=.028); nurses training (t=2.643, p=.001); and nurses' monthly income (r= -.262, p=.005) were highly significantly associated with the psychological well-being of the intensive care nurses. Conclusion: The study findings will be a guide to improving quality of life expanding psychological well-being and minimising psychological distress.
