Mechanical Ventilation (MV) is used quite frequently in the intensive care unit (ICU), for the treatment of patients with Respiratory Failure (RF), with its utilization increasing in recent years. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used for selection of 100 samples. Data were collected on each patient at initiation of mechanical ventilation, focusing on the demographics, indications of mechanical ventilation, and factors of outcome through record analysis. Out of 100 patients, 43% belonged to the age group of 45-64 years. Among them 68% of patients were male, and 68% patients’ estimated body weight ranged between 65-84 Kg. 80% of the patients received oxygen therapy prior to MV and 55% of the patients were on MV for less than three days. 80% of patients’ ICU stay were between 1-9 days and 54% were not extubated within five days of MV and 68% of patient had abnormal chest X- ray respectively. 62% had pH level less 7.45, 56% patients had pO2> 80%, and 54% patients were having pCO2 in the blood < 45 mmol and 55% patients were having SpO2 less than 90% at the time of intubation. 44% of patients were initiated ventilation due to respiratory failure and 88%of patients had co morbidities at the time of initiation.
