Abstract

This case report presents a typical instance of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, focusing on its symptoms, diagnostic approach, and treatment options. The disorder arises from immune-mediated damage to thyroid cells, resulting in progressive dysfunction of the gland. Clinical manifestations can range from asymptomatic to noticeable manifestations like increased weight, tiredness, goiter. Diagnosis usually involves elevated TSH levels, low free thyroid 4, and Thyroid specific antibodies, Ultrasound imaging typically reveals a diffusely hypoechoic thyroid with a heterogeneous appearance. Treatment primarily consists of thyroid hormone replacement with levothyroxine, while some research is exploring additional therapies like selenium supplementation and gut microbiota adjustments. With timely diagnosis and appropriate management, the prognosis for patients is generally very positive. This report aims to provide a brief overview of the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and emerging treatments for this common autoimmune disorder.
