A preliminary investigation to evaluate the degree of understanding of structured instruction on self-care management among intervertebral disc prolapse patients in particular hospitals in Tumkur. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured instruction, the study aimed to compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge scores, estimate the pre-test level of self-care management knowledge among intervertebral disc prolapse patients, and determine the association between the pre-test level of self-care management knowledge among intervertebral disc prolapse patients and particular demographic variables. A single group pre-test post-test only design was selected for the investigation. Forty patients with intervertebral disc prolapse who satisfied the inclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling. The data tool was validated by experts, and the pilot study confirmed its reliability and viability. A systematic interview schedule was used to collect data for the study. Following this, samples participated in a 45-minute structured educational program on self-management of intervertebral disc prolapse. On the seventh day after the intervention, a post-test was given. The post-test was administered using the same tool. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The study's findings demonstrated that the mean knowledge score following the test (22.65) was considerably higher than the mean score prior to the test (8.9), and that the "t" value between the pre- and post-test scores was statistically significant at the 0.01 level (t = 16.83). As a result, the well-organized lesson plan worked. The findings of the Chi-square analysis showed a strong correlation between the pre-test knowledge score of patients with intervertebral disc prolapse and the patient's economic status, education, occupation, duration of illness, and information source.
