Abstract

A pre-experimental study to evaluate how an organ donation awareness campaign affects the understanding of adolescents in a few pre-university colleges in the Dakshina Kannada District. The study's goals were to determine the effectiveness of an organ donation awareness program, adolescents' average knowledge score before and after tests in a subset of pre-university colleges, and the relationship between pre-test knowledge scores and specific demographic variables. For the study, a single group pre-test-post-test only design was chosen. Using a stratified random sampling procedure, 60 teenagers were chosen. Bertalanffy's General System Model served as the foundation for the conceptual framework. A systematic knowledge questionnaire served as the instrument. A structured teaching program was provided, and sociodemographic proformas and pre-tests were evaluated. After seven days, a post-test was administered. The data were tabulated and assessed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean pre-test and post-test knowledge scores were found to differ statistically significantly (t(59) =57.55, table value t(59)=1.670, p<0.05). Therefore, the study found that an organized organ donation education program was successful in raising adolescents' awareness of the topic. Gender and educational branch had an impact on the pre-test knowledge scores, according to the correlation between the test and a few chosen sociodemographic variables (p<0.05). Value of χ2(1) in the table = 3.84.
