A Study to Assess the Practices of Nurses Regarding Pain Management and its Effect on Patient Satisfaction in Selected Institute of Delhi

Abstract

Pain is a critical issue in a hospital environment. Nurse's pain management practice is a vital issue that is linked to positive pain management outcomes. When nurses accurately assess pain and effectively deliver pain management interventions, it can facilitate patients' willingness to perform early rehabilitation after surgical intervention and increase patient satisfaction. The study aims to assess the nursing practices towards pain management, assessment of the patient's pain and level of satisfaction from these nursing practices of pain management, and the relationship between the level of satisfaction of the patients and the nursing practices towards pain management in a selected hospital, New Delhi. A descriptive survey design was adopted to measure these factors of the study. Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, was chosen to conduct the study. The questionnaire tool was used to collect the data from the staff nurses and the patients. The tool was administered to 100 staff nurses and 100 patients, who were selected using a simple purposive sampling method. Data was analyzed using descriptive and analytical Statistics methods. The study's findings revealed a positive correlation between the nursing practices for pain management and patient satisfaction with pain management. The Pearson correlation results indicated a slight positive relationship between X and Y (r(98) = .231, p = .021).
