Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming geriatric nursing by enhancing the quality, efficiency, and personalization of care for the growing older adult population. By improving the standard, effectiveness, and customization of care for the expanding older adult population, AI is drastically changing geriatric nursing. In order to enhance thorough geriatric assessment, ongoing health monitoring, and customized care planning, AI-driven technologies — such as machine learning, predictive analytics, wearable sensors, robotics, and clinical decision support systems — are being incorporated into healthcare settings more frequently. Early detection of health decline, fall prediction, medication-related dangers, cognitive decline, and problems from chronic diseases are all made possible by these advancements, which facilitate prompt nursing interventions and lower preventable hospitalizations. By measuring physiological data, movement, sleep patterns, and daily activities, AI-powered remote monitoring devices facilitate independent living while fostering autonomy and safety. Additionally, by helping nurses create customized care plans, enhancing communication, streamlining workflow, and promoting evidence-based clinical decision-making, AI improves person-centered care. The application of AI in geriatric nursing is fraught with difficulties despite its enormous potential, including concerns about data security and privacy, algorithmic bias, ethical and legal issues, healthcare professionals’ lack of digital literacy, interoperability, and the need to maintain compassionate human interactions. Appropriate nursing education and training, strong regulatory frameworks, interdisciplinary cooperation, and ongoing assessment of AI-enabled healthcare systems are all necessary for successful integration. The present uses, advantages, drawbacks, moral issues, and potential applications of AI in geriatric nursing are all examined in this paper. It highlights how important it is for nurses to use AI technologies to provide safe, effective, equitable, and person-centered care while upholding the humanistic principles that are essential to nursing practice. AI integration with compassionate nursing care has the potential to improve health outcomes, increase quality of life, and encourage older persons to age healthily.
