A Descriptive Study on Assessing the Knowledge Regarding Prevention and Management of Cataract Disease on Adulthood and Old Age People at Santhemarahalli, Chamarajanagar

Background of the Study: As a part of our research, we have surveyed santhemarahalli regarding cataract disease and we find out that complication of cataract includes blurred vision, Retinal detachment, glaucoma, Vision loss, Capsular rupture. Cataract can be managed with drugs as well as non-pharmacological measures which includes lifestyle modification and various type of surgeries. The present study was done to asses knowledge of cataract and its associated risk factors. The prevalence is significantly higher in geriatric population.
Objectives: To assess the knowledge regarding awareness of cataract disease among adulthood and old age people. To assess the knowledge regarding prevention of cataract disease among adulthood and old age people. To assess the knowledge regarding management of cataract disease among adulthood and old age people. To find out the level of cataract disease patient among adulthood and old age people. To identify the regarding care who got surgery.
Data Collection Method: Early adulthood, late adulthood, and old age people in urban area Santhemarahalli, Chamarajanagara were selected by convenient sampling. After getting informal permission from the Gramapanchayath members, participants of the Santhemarahalli, using closed ended questions, related data were collected.
Data Analysis Method: Data will be analyzed by using descriptive statistics such as frequency and Percentage.
Results: The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of an information, Education, and communication package on knowledge and attitude towards controlling vision risk among patients. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of the study was discussed according to the objective. Vision of the cataract patients. The result of the study showed the program ability to improve intermediate out comes in cataract patients as their knowledge level was improved significantly. Better blood pressure control and significant reduction of the individual cardiovascular risk profile were achieved. The subjects were provided with repeated health education session and information about cataract disease. After the intervention, it was found that the patient's knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding cataract management had improved significantly.
Conclusion: The current study clearly demonstrated that overall, knowledge of adulthood an old age 88% had the knowledge about cataract disease having 21.56% mild cataract 49.02% moderate cataract 29.41%, severe cataract disease here, 95.2% surgery was done. 48.03% people have followed the medication and 71.56% prevention interest of cataract disease. It should be improved protect their health from cataract disease. Hence, researcher is given the knowledge regarding the management and prevention of cataract disease.
