Abstract

Falls represent a significant public health concern, particularly among hospitalized older adults. This vulnerability stems from a confluence of intrinsic (age-related physiological changes, pre-existing conditions, medications) and extrinsic factors (hospital environment, inadequate staffing, lack of fall prevention protocols). The consequences of falls in this population can range from minor injuries to severe trauma, including hip fractures, head injuries, and even death. These events lead to increased healthcare costs, prolonged hospital stays, reduced quality of life, and functional decline. This article review examines the current evidence on fall-related injuries in hospitalized older adults, focusing on risk factors, effective prevention strategies, and areas requiring further research.
