Abstract

Aging is a natural and multifaceted process, often accompanied by challenges such as chronic illnesses, cognitive decline, and social isolation. Geriatric nursing, a specialized healthcare field, addresses these complexities by delivering holistic care that blends clinical expertise with compassion. With the global population of individuals aged 60 and older projected to double by 2050, the demand for geriatric nursing is escalating rapidly. This discipline prioritizes comprehensive health assessments, chronic disease management, fall prevention, mental health support, and end-of-life care, with compassion forming its foundation. The interplay of housing patterns, societal attitudes, and psychological aspects of aging significantly influences geriatric care, underscoring the need for a multidisciplinary and individualized approach. Despite workforce shortages, complex patient needs, and the risk of emotional burnout, innovations such as Telemedicine, wearable technologies, and integrated care models offer promising advancements. Policy advocacy, specialized training, and research are essential to bolster this field and uphold older people's dignity, autonomy, and quality of life. Geriatric nursing remains a critical component of modern healthcare, bridging medical care with humanistic values.
