Abstract

Occupational Therapy (OT) plays a vital role in enhancing the Co-ordinating functional ability, well-being, and of individuals across the lifespan. Despite its growing recognition as an essential health profession, occupational therapy continues to face multiple challenges and issues that impact its scope and effectiveness. Key challenges include limited awareness of the profession among the general public and healthcare providers, inadequate workforce distribution, and insufficient integration of OT services within primary healthcare systems. Additionally, occupational therapists often encounter barriers such as resource constraints, heavy caseloads, lack of standardized practices, and evolving client needs driven by demographic, technological, and cultural changes. Ethical dilemmas, inter-professional collaboration difficulties, and the need for continuous professional development also pose significant concerns. This paper explores these challenges and issues, highlighting the implications for practice, education, and policy. Addressing these concerns is essential to strengthen the profession, enhance service delivery, and ensure occupational therapy’s continued contribution to holistic healthcare and community development.
