Abstract

Background: The adage "the greatest pleasure brings the greatest pain" is entirely accurate when it comes to labour pains. The most amazing and joyful time of life is during pregnancy. Although it is the most agonizing event of a woman's life, giving birth may be one of the most joyous. The mother benefits from knowing about pregnancy and labour since it allows her to better care for herself and promotes greater compliance throughout labour, which leads to a natural birth.

Aim: The aim of study was to compare the effects of Self-instructional Modules (SIM) and Video-Assisted Instruction (VAT) on labour process knowledge.

Method: 40 primigravida mothers who attended antenatal OPD in a few Hubballi hospitals (interventional groups I and II) participated in a quasi-experimental study. The current study employed a contemporaneous two-group pre-test and post-test design that was quasi-experimental. The easy non-probability sampling technique was used to choose the samples. The Structure Knowledge Questionnaire was used to gather data. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyses the data.

Result: The study's overall findings showed that, among primigravida mothers in interventional group I who had been exposed to video-assisted instruction, the majority of subjects 11, or 55% had average knowledge, 5 students, or 25%, had poor knowledge, and 4 students, or 20%, had good knowledge as measured by their pretest knowledge scores about the labour process. In contrast, all 20 of them (100%) demonstrated good knowledge of the labour process.

in the posttest. 12(60%) of the primigravida mothers in interventional group II who had been exposed to the self-instructional module had average knowledge, 5 (25%) had bad knowledge, and 3 (15%) had good knowledge, according to their overall pretest knowledge scores.

Conclusion: On the posttest, however, 40 people (20%) had average knowledge of the labour process, while 16 people (80%) had good knowledge. The study found that video-assisted instruction was more successful in raising primigravida moms' awareness of the birthing process.
