Effectiveness of Video-Based Instructional Programme on Diabetic Foot Care Among Diabetic Patients

Background: India is now facing a frivolous problem with the highest number of people with diabetes. (about 72.9 million in 2017) And by 2045, it is possibly 134.3 million, which indicates almost 264.4 million legs are at risk of diabetic foot ulcers, leading to amputations. 25% of diabetes people develop foot ulcers in their lifetime. Diabetes foot ulcers develop in 1 in 4 people with diabetes at the time of diagnosis. Among all the complications of diabetes, foot complications are the most serious and costly. Materials and Methods: This research employed a quasi-experimental design utilizing a one-group pre-test and post-test methodology, with purposive sampling techniques to select participants. The sample comprised 60 individuals. To evaluate participants' knowledge of diabetic foot care, a checklist with 15 targeted questions was administered. Additionally, a 29-item rating scale, specifically the Nottingham Assessment of Functional Foot Care, was utilized to measure the practical application of foot care practices among the subjects. Results: The study found that 25% of patients had good knowledge of foot care, 33.33% had satisfactory knowledge, and 41% had poor knowledge. In terms of practice, 1.67% demonstrated good practice, 63.33% showed satisfactory practice, and 35% engaged in poor practice. After the intervention, 100% of participants achieved good knowledge and practice regarding foot care.
