Nursing, an essential pillar of the healthcare system, remains undervalued and undercompensated, leading to significant professional and personal challenges for nurses. This article explores the systemic issues nurses face, particularly those in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), where they suffer from lower pay scales and inadequate recognition compared to their counterparts in other states. It highlights the disparity in pay, with nurses in Uttar Pradesh earning at level 7, equivalent to around 80,000 INR, while J&K nurses receive only 40,000 INR. The article also delves into the psychological effects of workplace harassment and the lack of opportunities for career advancement despite higher education. Through an urgent call for unity, advocacy, and persistent efforts to raise awareness, this piece aims to galvanize the nursing community to strive for better working conditions, fair compensation, and the recognition they deserve.
