Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of Instagram usage on mental health among postgraduate students in and around Mangalore City. The sample consisted of equal numbers of (100) boys and girls chosen from 4 different Nursing colleges in and around Mangalore. The students completed a Test for Instagram addiction and a Mental health checklist. Two-way ANOVA was employed to find out the significance of the difference between levels of Instagram addiction and mental health. Results revealed male postgraduate students were found to have higher levels of addiction than female postgraduate students; age and living with status do not have a significant influence on Instagram addiction. As the levels of Instagram addiction increased, the mental health scores of the postgraduate students decreased significantly as far as mental health scores are concerned. Both male and female postgraduates had statistically similar scores on mental health.
