Abstract

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of a Home-Based Diabetic Management Programme on individuals with Type II Diabetes at a Primary Health Center in Bangalore. The main objectives were to assess the initial level of knowledge and healthy lifestyle behaviours in both an Experimental and Control group, to analyze the impact of the Home Diabetic Management Programme on the Experimental group, to compare the knowledge and behaviours before and after the programme in both groups and to determine any associations between post-program knowledge and behaviours with demographic variables. The study involved 60 participants with Type II Diabetes, using a quantitative approach and a Quasi-Experimental non-randomized Control group design. Participants were selected through convenient sampling. Initial knowledge and behaviours were measured using semi-structured and Likert-scale questionnaires. Following this, the Home-Based Diabetic Management Programme was implemented to educate participants about Type II Diabetes Mellitus. A post-test was conducted after 7 days. Results indicated that the Home-Based Diabetic Management Programme significantly improved participants' knowledge and healthy lifestyle behaviours, as demonstrated by a paired t-test with p<0.001. The findings suggest that the programme positively impacted knowledge and behaviours related to Type II Diabetes Mellitus. In conclusion, the Home-Based Diabetic Management Programme effectively enhanced participants' knowledge and promoted healthy lifestyle behaviours in managing Type II Diabetes mellitus.
