Introduction: Dog bites constitute a significant public health issue, particularly among school-aged children. Structured educational interventions, such as planned teaching programmes, are essential to enhance knowledge and promote appropriate first-aid practices among students to avoid serious complications.
Aim of the Study: The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding dog bites and their first-aid management among high school students in selected schools of Bokaro Steel City.
Materials and Methods: A quantitative research approach was adopted using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The study was conducted among 120 students who met the inclusion criteria and were selected through a non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of two sections: Section A: included demographic variables, while Section-B: comprised multiple-choice questions assessing knowledge regarding dog bites and their first aid management. The tool was validated by experts, and necessary modifications were made before final administration. A pilot study was conducted to assess the feasibility and reliability of the tool. The pre-test was conducted to assess baseline knowledge, followed by the implementation of a planned teaching programme using lecture and discussion methods with appropriate teaching aids. The post-test was conducted after the intervention to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme.
Categorization of Knowledge Level: Knowledge scores were classified into three categories: inadequate (0–50%), moderate (51–75%), and adequate (76–100%).
Data Analysis: Data were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics.
Conclusion: The findings of the study demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the post-test knowledge scores of the participants, indicating that the planned teaching programme was effective in enhancing knowledge regarding dog bites and their first-aid management.
