Background: Pubertal development, including the onset of menarche, is a vital stage in a girl’s growth that is often accompanied by misconceptions and inadequate understanding among upper primary school students. Providing accurate information through suitable educational strategies is essential for promoting awareness and healthy attitudes.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a video-assisted teaching program in improving knowledge regarding pubertal changes and menarche among upper primary school girls in a selected school in Wayanad. It also sought to identify any association between knowledge levels and selected demographic variables.
Methods: A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test, post-test design was employed. Sixty participants were chosen using convenience sampling. Data were gathered using a structured knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The collected data were analysed using paired *t-test and Chi-square test.
Results: Before the intervention, 38.3% of the students exhibited poor knowledge, and 61.7% showed average knowledge. Following the video-assisted session, 63.3% demonstrated excellent knowledge, while 36.6% had average knowledge. The improvement in knowledge scores was statistically significant (*t* = 20.64, *p* < 0.01). A significant association was also observed between knowledge level and the number of siblings.
Conclusion: The video-assisted teaching program proved to be an effective educational tool for improving awareness and understanding of pubertal changes and menarche among upper primary school girls.
