Abstract

Objective: The study aimed to assess depression among patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among 112 IBS patients who were selected by using a convenience sampling technique. Data was collected through face to face interviews. After data collection, it was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study was conducted from January 2023 to December 2023. Results: It was found that the mean age of the participants was 37.53%, and 72.31% of them reported having experienced depression. There were statistically significant associations with age, gender, occupation, monthly family income, types of dependency, duration of illness and depression.
