Abstract

Air pollution significantly threatens public health, particularly in rapidly urbanizing and industrializing regions like Nepal. In Kathmandu, the basin-like topography contributes to severe air pollution levels, exacerbating health issues such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. This paper discusses implementing an Evidence-Based Policy Making (EBPM) framework tailored to Nepal's unique environmental and socio-economic contexts. It emphasizes the necessity of comprehensive data collection, stakeholder engagement, and integrating empirical evidence into policy development to combat air pollution effectively. Drawing on successful international case studies, the paper proposes specific adaptations such as digital data-driven public transportation systems, the promotion of electric mobility, congestion charging, and the expansion of urban green spaces to enhance air quality and urban livability in Nepal.
