Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of an RFID-based attendance system using the ESP8266 microcontroller, RC522 RFID reader module, 16x2 LCD with I2C interface, and a buzzer. The proposed system offers an efficient and automated solution for attendance management in various educational and organizational settings. The ESP8266 microcontroller serves as the central processing unit, facilitating communication between the RFID reader module and the peripheral devices. The RC522 RFID reader module enables contactless identification of individuals through RFID tags, ensuring swift and accurate attendance recording. The integration of a 16x2 LCD with I2C communication protocol provides a user-friendly interface for displaying pertinent information such as attendance status and system prompts. Additionally, a buzzer is incorporated to provide audible feedback, enhancing user interaction and system feedback. The system operates seamlessly, offering real-time attendance monitoring and management capabilities. Through this innovative implementation, the proposed RFID-based attendance system addresses the shortcomings of traditional attendance methods, offering improved efficiency, accuracy, and convenience. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy and reliability of the system, validating its potential for widespread adoption in diverse educational and organizational environments. With this device, real-time monitoring of students can be achieved in the classroom. In the future connectivity with web servers is to be built and monitoring is to be done on a large scale.
