Abstract

The gig economy has grown significantly in the nation in recent years because to the "Spur in Digital India" initiative. Gig workers frequently lack job stability, social safety, steady income, and legal recognition, despite making substantial contributions to the digital and urban economies. This study looks at how to close the policy gap and make sure the legal environment supports the gig economy's sustainable expansion based on previous research. The research methodologies employed were secondary documents published since 2013 in high quality peer reviewed journals namely ABDC, Scopus etc. The author developed a subject coding for the collected review articles and discovered that the papers cover a variety of topics, including the rise of the gig economy, the nature of labor, economic impact, legal issues, social impact, worker empowerment, and future trends. It was found that the literature underscores the importance of addressing the legal and social challenges faced by gig workers, along with the need for robust regulatory frameworks that ensure fair working conditions. Future research, according to the study, should concentrate on how the gig economy has aided in the upskilling of freelancers. Future studies might also concentrate on the effects of automation, creative regulatory frameworks, and the changing structure of worker organization in the gig economy.
