Abstract

World today is witnessing growing environmental challenges and increasing demand for fresh water. Public awareness and community participation play a central role in preserving water resources for future generations. This study explores people’s attitudes toward water conservation and their perceptions of government led initiatives, particularly those undertaken by Local Self Governments (LSGs). The findings suggest that while a majority of individuals recognize the importance of water conservation, their willingness to adopt sustainable practices is not upto the level of expectation. LSGs, being the closest governance bodies to the community, have the potential to influence public behaviour through grassroots campaigns, infrastructure development, and participatory programs. Strengthening the collaboration between citizens and LSGs is essential for achieving water sustainability.
