Significance and Findings of Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (2022-2023)

This gives data on household consumption of goods and services, published in February 2024. The survey covered consumption under three categories (food items, consumables and services, and durable goods). It was conducted in all states and union territories. The factsheet gives information on the household's monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE). Compared to previous studies, a distinct set of MPCE estimates is seen. Average India monthly per capita consumption expenditure is 71 percent higher than in rural households (Rs. 3773) compared to Rs. 6459 in urban households; it also collected auxiliary information on demographic particulars to help understand the consumption and expenditure pattern, standard of living, and well-being of the families for deriving various macroeconomic indicators.
