Abstract

Considering the COVID-19 pandemic's unprecedented global impact, this research paper comprehensively analyzes its effect on consumer behavior towards packaged food products in India. The pandemic has reshaped various aspects of daily life, with consumer preferences undergoing significant transformations. Utilizing a mixed approach, this study incorporates qualitative and quantitative data to explore shifts in consumer preferences and purchasing habits. The methodology involved targeted questionnaire distribution among diverse Indian demographics, followed by rigorous statistical analysis to decipher patterns and trends. Results indicate a marked increase in health consciousness among consumers driven by heightened awareness of nutrition and safety in food choices during the pandemic. Consumers are now prioritizing nutritional value, freshness, and safety in their food choices, reflecting a heightened awareness of health implications leading to a shift in demand dynamics within the packaged food sector.

Furthermore, there is a significant trend towards local and organic products, as consumers seek to support local businesses and reduce their carbon footprint. These behavioral changes underscore the pandemic's role as a catalyst for transforming consumer habits, indicating a shift towards more mindful and informed consumption. The findings have critical implications for marketers and policymakers in strategizing for the new normal in consumer behavior. Additionally, the implications for policymakers are significant, as understanding these shifts can inform regulations and support initiatives to promote healthier food options in the post-pandemic landscape. Companies must innovate their products & services and introduce new marketing strategies to resonate with the current consumer mindset.
