This approach involves several key steps, starting with identifying areas that need improvement, such as reducing wait times for customers and maintaining consistency in drink quality. Once these areas are identified, Starbucks collects relevant data during the Measure phase to understand the current state of operations. This data could include metrics like customer service duration and order accuracy. Next, in the Analyze phase, Starbucks delves into the data to pinpoint the root causes of any issues. This could involve closely examining the coffee-making process, identifying bottlenecks in the workflow, or evaluating the effectiveness of employee training methods. After identifying, the root causes Starbucks moves on to the Improve phase, where solutions are implemented to address these issues. This could involve redesigning processes, enhancing employee training programs, or implementing new technologies. Finally, in the Control phase, Starbucks establishes measures to sustain the improvements made. This could include continuous monitoring of key metrics and implementing standardized operating procedures across all stores. Overall, Six Sigma principles are applied at various levels of the organization, from individual store operations to corporate supply chain management, ensuring that Starbucks continuously enhances efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Dhakshna Moorthy D Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Purchasing, Logistics and Supply Chain Management system https://matjournals.net/engineering/index.php/JPLACMS/article/view/212 Thu, 21 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Green Supply Chain Management Practices for Sustainable Performance of Export Manufacturing Companies in Western Province, Sri Lanka https://matjournals.net/engineering/index.php/JPLACMS/article/view/346
Sustainability has recently gained prominence in manufacturing industries all around the world. Based on other scholars' research, the most prevalent techniques include green purchasing, eco-design, environmental cooperation, and reverse logistics, whereas the intersection of economic, environmental, and social performance refers to sustainability. Despite many studies being undertaken by various academics, there is still a lack of research on the connection between green supply chain practices and sustainability performance in export manufacturing enterprises in Sri Lanka's Western Province. The goal of this research is to investigate the influence of green supply chain practices on a company's sustainable performance. The two aims are to determine the connection between GSCM and sustainability performance as well as to assess the influence of GSCM methods on sustainability achievement. To collect the data, a field survey technique and a closed-ended questionnaire were employed for 141 EPZ-registered export manufacturing companies in the western province. Simple random sampling was used to collect primary data, and responses were processed in SPSS using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Responses from both managerial and non-managerial levels were examined here. Except for green purchasing, the study revealed that eco-design, environmental cooperation, and reverse logistics all have a beneficial impact on environmental performance. Apart from green purchasing, environmental cooperation, and reverse logistics, only eco-design has a beneficial influence on economic performance, while only eco-design and reverse logistics have a favourable impact on social performance.
Chandrasiri P.H.B.T., Amarasena T.S.M Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Purchasing, Logistics and Supply Chain Management system https://matjournals.net/engineering/index.php/JPLACMS/article/view/346 Sat, 20 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Impact of Entrepreneurship Education of Owners and Managers on Growth of Manufacturing SMEs in Western Province, Sri Lanka https://matjournals.net/engineering/index.php/JPLACMS/article/view/59
Small and Medium Businesses (SMEs) are essential to the GDP, employment generation, and poverty alleviation in developing countries. They also contribute to the GDP. Despite their importance, SME failure rates have been rising quickly. Many academics contend that one important component that might help SMEs develop an entrepreneurial culture and accelerate their growth is entrepreneurship education. The purpose of this research is to find out how owners' and managers' entrepreneurship education affects the expansion of manufacturing SMEs in Sri Lanka's Western Province. The analysis acclimated primary and accessory abstract sources to achieve this goal. Convenience sampling and a quantitative analysis alignment were acclimated to accommodate respondents in the study. Primary data was acquired by the process of a survey with a well-crafted questionnaire. The study's abstracts appear favourable amid the amplification of SMEs in Sri Lanka's Western Province and the owners' and managers' entrepreneurship education.
A.L.A.S. Asoka, T.S.M.
