Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in healthcare and pharmacy, reshaping conventional approaches to drug discovery, clinical practice, and pharmaceutical education. Traditional drug development remains lengthy and expensive, with limited success rates and high attrition. The integration of AI and machine learning has established data-driven precision in early-stage research, target identification, and lead optimization, substantially reducing the time and cost of developing new therapeutics. In clinical pharmacy, AI-powered systems such as Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) and Medication Therapy Management (MTM) tools improve clinical decision-making, enhance medication safety, and promote personalized patient care. Furthermore, AI contributes to pharmacovigilance through advanced adverse drug event (ADE) detection using natural language processing and big data analytics. In pharmacy practice, workflow automation and digital dispensing systems streamline operations, while AI-assisted education tools encourage active learning and academic innovation. Although the adoption of AI in India is expanding, it faces challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, data quality, and ethical concerns related to patient privacy. Solving these barriers is important to ensure ethical and unbiased adoption of AI into pharmacy practice. Overall, AI holds the potential to revolutionize pharmaceutical research, education, and patient care, representing a systemic shift toward a more optimized, accurate, and personalized healthcare framework.
