Abstract

The distribution of medications via the buccal mucosal membrane of the mouth is what the phrase "buccal drug delivery" refers to in particular. If a baby or elderly person has trouble swallowing a standard oral solid dosage form, the buccal film may be an option to consider. To increase bioavailability and decrease the frequency of doses needed to achieve oral plasma peak levels, the buccal film is an appropriate delivery mechanism for drugs that are subject to extensive first-pass metabolism. Because of this, it reduces waste and saves money. In contrast to tablets, it enhances the buccal cavity absorption of the API with less saliva contact, no biting required, and no water needed for delivery. The buccal film has several advantages over other methods of buccal medicinal delivery, including not irritating the mouth, ease of usage, quick absorption, biodegradability, and graceful appearance. Additionally, it has a more appealing appearance. Solvent casting and hot melt extrusion are two of the methods used to make buccal films. Also, the acidic environment is eliminated via the buccal mucosa, which gives a direct conduit into the blood.
