A Study to Assess the Level of Knowledge Regarding the Prevention and Management of Choking Among Care Givers of Under Five Children in a Selected Hospital, Kottayam, to Develop Pamphlet

Little Lourdes College of Nursing conducted a descriptive study to assess the level of knowledge regarding the prevention and management of choking among caregivers of under-five children in a selected hospital, Kottayam, with a view to developing a pamphlet. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge on the prevention of choking among caregivers of fewer than five children, to determine the level of knowledge regarding the management of choking among caregivers of fewer than five children and to identify the association between demographic variables and knowledge regarding the prevention and management of choking among caregivers of under-five children. A convenient sampling technique was used to select 30 samples from the population. The study tool consisted of a questionnaire with two sections: 1 and 2. Section 1 consists of 7 questions regarding demographic variables. Section 2 consists of 20 questions to assess the level of knowledge regarding the prevention and management of choking among the caregivers of children under five in selected Hospitals in Kottayam. A pilot study was conducted among 10 caregivers under-five children at LLM Hospital, Kidangoor, to assess the feasibility of the study. The data was collected and analyzed using inferential and descriptive statistics. The study's significant findings were that, among 30 samples, 18 (60%) caregivers had average knowledge, 12(40%) caregivers had good knowledge and 0% had poor knowledge.
