Assess The Utilization of Mobile Phone and Knowledge Regarding Health Hazards of Mobile Phone Among Teenagers in Selected Areas of Uttarakhand

Abstract

Present research study aims to assess the knowledge regarding hazardous effect of mobile phone among the teenagers. For this study I have selected quantitative non experimental descriptive sign the present study tends to measure and assess the utilization of mobile phones and knowledge about the health hazards of mobile phone. A sample size of the present study is 100 samples of teenagers. In the present research non probability convenient sampling technique was used. Sample characteristics of student including 10 items. Age, gender, area of residence, education of mother, education of father, family income, type of phone, duration of use in a day, type of phone, period mobile phone utilization, monthly rental charges for internet. In checklist 15 items are included related to utilization of mobile phone. The tool was administered on 10 samples and reliability was established by split half technique by using Karl Pearson’s correlation coefficient formula and spearman Brown Prophecy formula. The reliability of the tool was found to be (r=0.74) for utilization checklist and (r=0.85) for knowledge questionnaire. The tools were found to be reliable. The findings of the study shows that mean score of mobile phone utilization among participants were 11.69 with standard deviation 3.19; the maximum utilization score was 15. In study, it was found that 62% of the participants have higher utilization of mobile phone, 36%% have moderate utilization of mobile phones. In the present study, it was found that the mean knowledge score of study participants regarding health hazards of mobile phone were 15.42 with SD 2.14. 73(73%) of samples have good knowledge, 25(25%) of samples have average knowledge and 2(2%) of samples have poor knowledge regarding health hazards of mobile phone. Mobile phones are becoming popular among younger generation. Although these are convenient and useful, teenagers are becoming more dependent on them.
