Abstract

Aims and Objectives: The main goal of the research is to "assess the knowledge and practice regarding the prevention of allergic asthma due to the feather scaling of Bombyx mori moth among the workers of the Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute in Mysore, to prepare an instructional module." Methods: The descriptive survey design was adapted to assess the knowledge and practice regarding the prevention of allergic asthma due to the feathers scaling of Bombyx mori moth among 100 workers from the seed production unit selected by non-probability convenience sampling technique at the Workers of Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute, Mysore. Demographic sheets and knowledge questionnaires with a 5-point rating scale were used to collect the needed data. The structured knowledge questionnaire was administered to assess the knowledge level of the workers, and observations were made to assess their practice using a 5-point rating scale. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: About the knowledge assessment, the mean knowledge score was 11 with an SD of 4.5276, and the practice score was 40.41 with an SD of 16.67. The correlation between knowledge and practice scores was 0.45, and the t' for correlation was 4.99 (p<0.05). This indicated that there was a positive correlation between knowledge and practice; it was found to be statistically significant at the 5% level. The results show that there is an association between the knowledge scores and selected demographic variables such as age, work experience, suffering from allergic asthma, habit of cigarette smoking, and daily exercises, and an association between selected demographic variables and practice scores such as educational status, family income, work experience, and suffering with allergic asthma. Interpretation and Conclusion: Based on the above findings, it is inferred that participants had average knowledge of the prevention of allergic asthma and exhibited an unsatisfactory practice score.
