Abstract

Background: A comprehensive health assessment was conducted in Barangay Papandayan, Marawi City, to identify pressing health needs and promote sustainable well-being within the community.

Methods: The study utilized quantitative methods, gathering data from 285 households comprising 459 families and 1,045 family members. A vernacular-translated survey questionnaire was administered to assess various aspects of household information, family features, and health status, enabling detailed insights into respondents’ living conditions and health-seeking behaviors.

Results: Key findings highlighted critical community issues, including overcrowding, inadequate housing, poor sanitation, limited access to safe drinking water, and insufficient backyard vegetable gardens. Family-related concerns encompassed economic stability, educational attainment, and caregiving responsibilities. Health status indicators revealed challenges in health-seeking behavior, vaccination coverage, maternal and child nutrition, and elderly health, underscoring the need for targeted interventions.

Conclusion: The assessment provided a foundation for implementing initiatives to address identified problems, including housing support, sanitation improvement, and health education programs. Recommendations were made to enhance community engagement and collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure sustainable health outcomes. While the study faced limitations, such as potential translation biases and a short data collection period, it serves as a crucial step towards empowering the residents of Barangay Papandayan through informed health interventions and enhanced well-being.
