Telehealth Integration Challenges: A Qualitative Study on Nurses' Perceptions and Experiences in Southern Philippines

Background: This qualitative study investigates nurses' perspectives and experiences regarding the integration of telehealth into case management practices and care routines in Jolo, Sulu Philippines.
Methods: Comprehensive interviews were conducted with eight purposively selected nurses experienced in telehealth, utilizing qualitative phenomenological methodology. Data collection occurred from December 13, 2023, to March 29, 2024, employing validated semi-structured interviews and observation protocols. Content and thematic analysis were employed for data interpretation.
Results: Three primary themes emerged: (1) Influence of Telehealth on Nursing Practice, highlighting benefits such as enhanced patient accessibility, improved communication, and tailored treatment plans. (2) Challenges of Implementing Telehealth in Nursing, revealing technical difficulties, increased workloads, inadequate training, infrastructure needs, referral complexities, and privacy concerns. (3) Overcoming Obstacles in Integrating Telehealth with Established Practices, emphasizing the necessity of resolving barriers and implementing efficient strategies for successful integration.
Conclusion: While telehealth offers opportunities to enhance nursing practice, successful integration with existing protocols demands overcoming challenges through proactive adoption, continuous education, and seamless incorporation into daily routines. Recommendations derived from these findings prioritize organizational support and ongoing professional development to optimize telehealth utilization in healthcare settings.Top of FormBottom of Form
