Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of home remedies of minor ailments among pregnant women, to correlate the knowledge score of pregnant mothers regarding home remedies of minor disorder of pregnancy with demographic variables, to prepare an information booklet on home remedies of minor disorders of pregnancy. Methodology: A descriptive research design was done in the Antenatal OPD of hospitals in Chamarajanagar. A total of 120 antenatal mothers were consecutively recruited from the selected setting. Knowledge of the antenatal mother regarding home remedies for minor pregnancy complications. Information booklet regarding home remedies of minor elements of pregnancy were used to collect data among antenatal mother. Results: In the study, out of 120 samples, 50(41.66%) were in the age group of 18-22years, 41 (34.6%) were in the age group of 23-27 years, and 29(24.6%) were in the age group of 28 and above years. Regarding gravida 88(73.33%) were first gravida, 32(26.66%) were multi gravida. Regarding income status 18 (15%) women family income around 5000, 34(28.33%) women income 10000, 37(30.83%) women income 15000 and 31(25.83%) women income 20000 per month. Regarding education 38(31.66) were primary school, 32(26.66%) were higher secondary school and 25(20.83%) were PUC and 25(20.83%) were graduates. Regarding employment 69(58.5%) were house wife 16(13.33%) were self-employment and 35 (2916%) private company workers. Regarding religion 85(70.83%) were Hindu, 25(20.83%) were Muslim and 10(8.33%) were Christians. Type of family 104(86.66%) belongs to a nuclear family, and 16(13.33%) belongs to a Joint family. Regarding knowledge among 120 participants, 37 (30.833%) of participants had good knowledge, 24(20%) of participants had average knowledge, and 59(49.166%) of the participants had inadequate knowledge regarding Minor disorders of Pregnancy. Conclusion: Study concluded that most of the pregnant women lacking knowledge on management of minor disease of pregnancy and it is important to create awareness regarding home remedies.
