Abstract

Objective: 1) To identify the prevalence of postpartum blues among postnatal mother.2) To rule out association between postpartum blues with selected demographic variables. Methods: An exploratory research approach with descriptive design was applied. Non- probability convenient sampling technique was applied. 30 primi post natal mothers who met the designated set of criteria during the period of data collection. Tools used are demographic variables, behavioral scale. It consists of 20 items. The items in each tool were scored on 3-point likert scale. Findings: Analysis of the collected data reveals that of the 30 primi postnatal mothers 33.33% of mothers are between 19-25 years, and 66.66% are between 26-31 years. Among 30 primi postnatal mothers 26.66% were up to higher secondary education, 46.66% were undergraduate and 26.66% were post graduates. Majority of the selected primi postnatal mothers were unemployed (66.66%) and 33.33% of the mothers were employed. Majority of the selected mothers (56.66%) refers to joint family and 43.33 refers to nuclear family. Majority of the selected samples (73.33%) are of mild depression level and 26.66% are of moderate depression level. Conclusion: This proves that the majority of the mothers have mild depression after the birth of the baby.
