Abstract

Aim: Ordinary foodstuffs have rich dietary worth, while junk foodstuffs have poor dietary value, vitamins and mineral contents, and provide a high amount of calories via additional sugar, oil, and polished carbohydrates. Obesity is mainly caused by above facts which has ill effects on overall health of an individual. On the basis of day to day experience and review of literature researchers realized the need of hour to alert students of nursing on the subject of ill effects of junk foodstuffs. This motivation leads to plan and conduct present research study.

Methods: One group pretest, posttest experimental study drawing with an evaluative research approach was utilized in the study. Teaching program in structured format was given as intervention. The time period employed in data collection was 4 weeks from July 1, 2024 to July 30, 2024. Data assembling was carried out by questionnaire method. The data collection tool comprises of two parts.

Result: In pretest, 77% participants had insufficient knowledge level, 18% had moderately sufficient knowledge level while in posttest 69% of participants had moderately sufficient knowledge score as well as 26% had sufficient score of knowledge on the subject of junk food consequences GI tract mucosal layer. T test score 30.21 was superior to table score (2.02 at df 99) at .0001 significance level. No important affiliation established amid the knowledge scores in pre test with other socio demographic variables.

Conclusion: The present research discovered about dearth of awareness in pre test and education intervention was effective in knowledge up gradation. Therefore, awareness and necessary guidance is worthy among college students for avoiding such ill habits.
