Learning Package Outcome on Knowledge about Adjustment Problems among Nursing Undergraduates

Abstract

Aim: Adjustment problem causes emotional or behavioral symptoms that disturb everyday life. Homesickness, socializing, poor study skills and time management are associated factors for adjustment problems. On the basis of literature and news media, researchers realized the need to plan and conduct a study on awareness about adjustment problems among college students.

Methods: The current study utilized evaluative research approach and research design of pre experimental nature. Current research study conducted at Bhagwan Mahavir School of Nursing Surat. Structured health teaching program on knowledge was given as intervention. The time period employed in data collection was 4 weeks. Questionnaire method was used to gather data. The data collection tool encompasses two parts.

Result: Around 45% participants scored poor knowledge level, 37.5% scored average knowledge level as well as 17.5% scored good knowledge level in pretest. Whereas in posttest, 40% participants scored good knowledge level, 37.5% scored average knowledge level and 12.5% scored poor knowledge level regarding adjustment related problems. Paired ‘t’ test value 8.95 superior to table value (2.02, df 39) considering disparity amid post and pretest knowledge score among nursing undergraduates following structured educational program.

Conclusion: Awareness and education on adjustment problems can help to curb such adjustment problems and prepare students in advance in taking action against such issues and problems.
